This month’s CDP message of the month is Open-Mindedness! Being open-minded is a super important skill to have but can definitely be challenging at times. It can include being open to new ideas and opinions, understanding other people’s perspectives, being empathetic, being a good learner who is open to feedback, and not being too stubborn or stuck in one’s own ways. Being an open-minded person can be helpful for making friends and having healthy relationships with others, doing well in school or work, and doing well in karate. We can practice being more open-minded by regularly challenging ourselves to new things and experiences. We can try out a new food we’ve never had before or haven’t tried in awhile, we can try a new hobby we’ve always thought was interesting but maybe never thought to try, or we can try out a new form of exercise. We can practice being curious about something different by asking questions and learning about it instead of turning away from it. We can be an open-minded learner by being teachable and allowing feedback, advice, and correction from knowledgeable teachers. By doing these things, we will have many opportunities in life to grow and learn!
