June 2021 CDP: Respect

0621 June Word Post RESPECT [full-size].jpg

Our CDP message of the month for June is Respect. Respect is the most important part of karate which is why it’s discussed during every student’s very first introductory lesson. As karate student’s, we always try to be respectful in and out of karate and will be discussing ways to do this all month. We can practice respect at karate by saying, “Yes ma’am, No ma’am” or “Yes sir, No sir” when answering our teachers, bowing on and off the mat, treating everyone around us nicely and using control when practicing our karate moves. Outside of karate, we can continue to practice respect by being kind to our teachers, family members, friends, peers, or coworkers, listening to other people’s ideas, keeping our room and our belongings tidy, being kind to ourselves and helping others without expecting anything in return. We will remind student’s all month that respect is extremely important throughout the journey to black belt (and once earning a black belt) and with this responsibility, you can regularly ask yourself what kind of person you want to be and what kind of person do you want others to know you as.
